Black Girl by Lenny Kravitz is such a soulful and beautiful song.

This song has such an older style groove to it.

There is one part of the song that Glenn always looks at me because I always have to snap my fingers at that one point in the song. Every time. It is tradition.

The lyrics depict a love song and an appreciation for black women in general.

The way Lenny writes about them is so poetic and dignified. It is really a piece of art and a tribute more than just a song.

This is a song I used to listen to on a daily basis. I bought this CD rather randomly. I had never heard The Meat Puppets, but I liked the CD cover art. *LOL* I did that a lot as a teenager. I lived in the country and the nearest place that sold CD’s was an hour away, (outside of Rusty’s Records, which was about 20 minutes away, but sadly his shop was not long for our area), so I became a Columbia House and BMG Music addict. I ordered so many of my CD’s through those mail away offers it was ridiculous.

But I discovered a lot of cool music that way.

“Station” was definitely my favorite track off of this album. It is purely silly, and another one of those songs that is perfect because of the imperfections. The arrangement is so creative and totally unique. I had never heard anything like it. I have heard few songs I could even compare it to even now.

A lot of people think I am a freak for loving this song, and they are probably right, but I probably don’t care. *LOL*

I CAN NOT HELP myself; I HAVE to move to this song. Glenn could tell you. Whenever this song comes on I go into instant happy mode and HAVE to dance!

In the car, in the shower, while cooking, it does not matter. I am addicted to this song. I hear that beat kick in and it owns me. Flat out.

I remember when this song was released and it was rather ground breaking at the time for a country artist like Tammy Wynette to collaborate with a hip hop kind of group. I thought that was awesome! (Still do.) I love it when people get outside of “the box” and do things that are unexpected.

Tammy was fearless, may she rest in peace.

I have been in love with this song since I was a young child before I even knew who Vincent Van Gogh was, or really before I knew who Don McLean was.

This song was written in 1971. Don wrote it after reading a book about the life of Vincent Van Gogh. The Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam even played the song daily after the song had been released and a copy of the sheet music, together with a set of Van Gogh's paint brushes, is buried in a time capsule beneath the museum. (According to the official Don McLean website.)

The lyrics to this song are exquisite in every way, and the soft passion that Don sings the words just pierces your heart. I have cried many times when I truly listen to this song because the descriptions just draw you in.

One of the greatest songs of all time written about one of the greatest artists of all time.

This song is so incredibly special and just breath taking through and through.

I have this song on a couple of my favorite mix CD's and I sing at the top of my lungs every time. This is a great song to exercise your vocal cords to.

Mama Cass. What an amazing woman.

Cass is probably one of the most influential ladies in music history, in my opinion. Not only was she more talented than just about any other female singer I can think of, but this lady had confidence, charm, and all the ingredients of a star.

Regardless of any challenges she may have faced with her physical appearance, Mama Cass MADE people listen because she was just THAT talented, she was so damn good people did not care, she had a great voice and she was a great performer.

There are so many of her songs that are my favorites, but this one is definitely my #1. The lyrics are so hopeful for those of us who have dreamed of making it big in “the business. When I hear it I am so inspired to press on and continue to try and live my dreams. I think, “Cass made it, and she is encouraging us all to keep trying even though she has passed away…” Seems silly but it still rings true for me even today.

Obviously Jimi was one of the great innovative guitarists and performers of classic rock, but I love this softer more soulful side to him as well.

Connie Francis is one of my favorite singers of all time. Ever since I was a child I can remember being in awe of her powerful vocals.

My Mom used to dance and sing Connie Francis songs when I was little. I can remember times when my Mom had her “private Mom time” and she would hang a curtain over the doorway to the living room and tell us kids to go play in our rooms for awhile and she would crank up the music and sing and dance to her music. A lot of times she would just turn on the radio, but more often she would throw on her records. Connie Francis was among her favorites.

Most assuredly this will not be the last time Connie shows up on my top 10,000 list, but this song is special because my Mom would sing it loud and clear with or without the album. I don’t know exactly why, but I always felt that Mom was happy when she sang this song in particular. My Mom has a beautiful voice, especially when she was younger she was a powerhouse vocalist. She loves singing songs that are almost operatic. She had the range to pull it off. She still does to a point. I get a lot of my natural powerful vocal ability from her I think.

I have had this song on my mind all day! Just a few nights ago Glenn and I were listening to it in his van and analyzing the lyrics and for as many times as I have heard the song I never really analyzed the lyrics.

It really is genius. The way they use colors throughout the song to describe the story, feelings, and events. It is really really neat.

I have been into this style of song all weekend. This kind of music is very therapeutic for me. “Indigo Passion” is very much in the same vein as yesterday’s pick, “Thirteen” by Big Star. Gotta love those pretty acoustic guitars.

My song choice today is Big Star's "Thirteen.' i am rather surprised that I have not chosen this song thus far as it is certainly one of my favorite songs of all time.

My favorite line is absolutely, "Would you be an outlaw for my love..." Something very romantic and nostalgic about that lyric.

I was reminded how much I enjoy that song today while singing it with my family. The song is so simple. but so complex. I love a song that is magical without over doing it.

Glenn and I were introduced to Big Star in a round about way when we lived in Pullman, WA. I remember nights sitting by the camp fire or out by the pool and singing that song with him as well. We made our own magical memories. That is what I believe a truly amazing song is... one that provides inspiration and magic for years to come.
