Day 420 - Sondre Lerche and Regina Spektor - Hell No

DAY 420
Sondre Lerche and Regina Spektor - "Hell No"
From "Dan in Real Life [SOUNDTRACK]"

I have been meaning to pick this song for ages... well, meaning to pick ANY song for ages but this one especially. :)

This song is just so fun and romantic and freakin' adorable!

Glenn and I had the pleasure of seeing Sondre Lerche open up for Elvis Costello a few years back and he was very good and enjoyable at the time but over time he has really seemed to mature as an artist and we have grown to really love a HUGE portion of his catalog. And Regina Spektor is such an amazing vocalist herself and brings SO much personality to this song it is just a fantastic pairing. Regina is making quite a name for herself and is probably better known than Sondre presently...

You can listen to the song on this YouTube clip if you like... and you should... because it is wonderful. :D

Day 419- Billy Joel - Stiletto

DAY 419
Billy Joel - "Stiletto"
From "52nd Street"

I had really forgotten how much I adore this song until Glenn played it for me a couple months ago and now I am slightly obsessed with how much I adore this track.

The lyrics are smart and nicely arranged and I love the rhythm.

The beginning of the song is so jazzy and retro and then the piano and drums kick in and you just have to start groovin’!! And the story line in the song is brilliant.

How often do you even hear the word Stiletto in a song anyways, gotta give Billy some points just for that. The man is a very amazing word-smith.

Check out the song in this YouTube clip! Great song!!!

Day 418 - Kingston - Round We Go

DAY 418
Kingston - "Round We Go"
From "Single Realease - No album at this time"

I just heard this band, Kingston, for the first time this morning and this song reminds me of how I felt about The Kooks the first time I heard them. According to their MySpace profile they have not released and album yet and are unsigned. I can't imagine they'd stay unsigned for long! Their music is really fun and energetic! I really enjoy their arrangements.

You can listen to this song and see the video on this YouTube clip.

I know nothing but what I have read about them but here is a blurb from their current MySpace profile:

The Thrilling power-pop outfit Kingston is comprised of Dan Gibson (vocals), Scott Cleary (guitar), Shohan Hustwick (bass), and Ben Barter (drums). Forming in 2006 the Auckland based band are engaging audiences with their electrifying live show and continue to do so in their rather non-stop fashion. Having just released their debut single 'Good Good Feeling' Kingston has reacted well with NZ media. Already placing in the top 40 NZ singles chart and their distinctive video proving to be a huge success on NZ music TV. Kingston were also chosen to be 2008's New Zealand Schools Tour band. This covered the whole country on a 3 month nationwide tour spanning July, August & September. With this in hand Kingston have developed a solid loyal fan base across New Zealand and are primed for good things to come. Renowned for their infectious power pop anthems Kingston are already sparking international attention and are planning to take on the US music scene in early 2009.

Day 417- Glenn Case - OK Cupid

DAY 417
Glenn Case - "OK Cupid"

Glenn wrote this song to assist in a surprise marriage proposal for his good friend in Atlanta. The song was written with the inspiration that his friend had met his lady friend on OKCupid.com and his friend was using the songs to help him surprise her with the proposal. It was all quite romantic and wonderful And Glenn created an awesome song out of the whole thing that I think is one of my personal favorites he has ever written.

Day 416 - Pop Levi - Dita Dimoné

DAY 416
Pop Levi - "Dita Dimoné"
From "Never Never Love"

Man, how bad am I? Not picking a single song in the whole month of March??? Wow.... gotta get back to it!

So let's kick back in with a bang!

Glenn, once again as with so many songs I list here, introduced me to this awesome song and I groove to it every time! Not a well known band but they sure created a winner with this song!

The style of music is very hit and miss with me, I am selective regarding this genre, but this is one of the most awesome "ear worms" I have ever heard!!!

It is just a fun song and I love it... check out the song on this YouTube clip.

Day 415 - Lily Allen - Fuck You

DAY 415
Lily Allen - "Fuck You"
From "It's Not Me, It's You"

For such an eye catching title this little ditty is a happy sounding little song. The arrangement reminds me a lot of The Carpenters song "Close To You."

Glenn and I were listening to this song while putting away laundry last night and Glenn said, "I bet you love this song... it is almost like an anthem for you." Some days.... yeah. :P

It is just an incredibly fun song to listen to and it puts me in a good mood...

Day 414 - Iron & Wine - Flightless Bird, American Mouth

DAY 414
Iron & Wine - "Flightless Bird, American Mouth"
From "Twilight Soundtrack"

I recently discovered Iron & Wine (a.k.a. Sam Beam)having heard this specific song on the movie "Twilight" which I personally loved. (The movie and the book series.)

I know nothing of this amazing artist but am certain that will be changing shortly as this live performance, just blew me away!!!

As strange as the lyrics may seem they are quite intriguing and oddly romantic. The words are extremely dreamy and romantic when coupled with this genius musical arrangement. You must give it at least one listen.

It sounds like you threw some oldies doo-whop and some classic folk music in a bag, shook it up, and viola! Magical music!!! :D

You can hear the studio version of this song on this YouTube clip.

Day 413 - Ellis Paul - Take All The Sky You Need

DAY 413
Ellis Paul - "Take All The Sky You Need"
From "American Jukebox Fables"

Glenn and I were both completely floored the other day when we realized that neither of us had chosen this song on our top 10,000 blogs. Seriously... this is one of my all time favorite Ellis songs. This is one of the most wonderfully romantic songs I have ever heard.

The lyrics that grab you are:

"If you want to run I'll pack my suitcase
If you want to stay I'll make a front door key
And if you need space... to fly... free
Take all the sky you need."

That is love. Making compromises. Staying or going along side. And sometimes letting go just enough to be able to continue to hold on.

Giving a love that is genuine and unconditional.

Agape love. (Divine, unconditional, self-sacrificing, active, volitional, and thoughtful love.)

You can check out Ellis Paul performing this song live at Makor on this YouTube clip. Pure magic.

Day 412 - April March - Chick Habit

DAY 412
April March - "Chick Habit"
From "Death Proof Original Soundtrack"

So I discovered this song on one of my goood friends MySpace profiles and LOVE it! It reminds me of The Munsters TV show theme in a way.

I have never heard April March's music before that I know of but am familiar with some projects she has apparently been a part of in the past according to her wikipedia profile.

The song is just fun and retro sounding and I really enjoy it. Once I found it I had to listen to it at least 5 times in a row! Check it out on this YouTube clip.

Day 411 - Alter Bridge - Watch Over You

DAY 411
Alter Bridge - "Watch Over You"
From "Blackbird"

As I prepared to type this I realized my last pick was from The Crow Soundtrack... and a crow is a black bird.... just sorta funny... :)

So I must admit that I shamefully discovered this song via reality TV garbage flipping through the "57 Channels and Nothing On" and catching the song during the whole Celebrity Rehab show with Dr. Drew. I don't follow the show though I have admittedly watched it a couple times during one of my couch induced zombie episodes. Hehehe...

Anyway.... I digress.

So I am almost too picky with some of this style of rock that I actually embrace but this song is really good. It really moved me. I tend to have a softer spot for Myles Kennedy having met him on a few occasions. Him being a Spokane Boy and all. ;)

The lyrics are well thought out and I personally relate to them very deeply.

Day 410 - Jane Siberry - It Can't Rain All The Time

DAY 410
Jane Siberry - "It Can't Rain All the Time"
From "The Crow: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack"

I was sad when I saw I had not picked a song for the whole month of November. Life happens, eh?

So recently Glenn and I went on a crusade to purchase a copy of "The Crow" on DVD. We had it on VHS but preferred to have a DVD copy as well. I had forgotten what a great movie this is! I love the story line, I love the cinematography, I just love the dark romance adventure story that it is. Brandon Lee would have had a promising career had he survived the filming. So sad.

This song is very beautiful. It has such an ethereal feel. Her voice is very enchanting.

Day 409 - Heidi Newfield - Johnny and June

DAY 409
Heidi Newfield - "Johnny and June"
From "What Am I Waiting For"

I heard this song about a week ago one time while watching CMT which I admit, I do from time to time because I do enjoy a very select number of country songs and am always interested in hearing new good country songs. I have not been able to get this song off my brain since I heard it so it much like my last pick has become an instant favorite. This song really depicts the kind of country music I tend to enjoy.

This song has heart and I relate to it in the biggest of ways. The love between Johnny Cash and June Carter-Cash was one of epic proportions and thier romance was one of the greatest of our time. I feel like my and my husbands love is very similar. Not perfect but perfectly imperfect and suites each of us perfectly. One can not be without the other.

I know little of Heidi Newfield aside from what little information I have read, but I think she must have talent to write a song this wonderful.

Check out her website for more info and definitely check out the video so you can hear the song.

Day 408 - In This Moment - Into The Light

DAY 408
In This Moment - "Into The Light"
From "The Dream"

Glenn and I had the pleasure of seeing In This Moment when they opened for Rob Zombie here in Spokane this last spring. Their performance was really awesome, which was tough given the performer they were opening for. :)

The lead vocalist, Maria Brink, dresses like Alice in wonderland at times but is a bad ass version for sure. She is fabulous in her vocal diversity. She can scream and growl with precision but also has an amazingly strong and beautiful vocal ability as well.

This track depicts her softer side. Check out some other performances on YouTube. Their videos are well done and entertaining.

Day 406 - Ellis Paul - Seven

DAY 406
Ellis Paul - "Seven"
From "Translucent Soul"

This album will always hold a very special place in my heart and my music collection as it was the first album I ever purchased and listened to by my musical hero, Ellis Paul.

This song is a beautifully written song, (like so many by Ellis), but the lyrics are particularly intense. And the way Ellis expresses the vocals you really just get lost in the experience that the song is.

The song speaks for itself.... if you take the time to find this song and listen to it you will not be disappointed that you did. Here are the lyrics for your reading pleasure... :)

Seven times I traced your number
Just one finger to your voice
Seven times I put the receiver down
Seven times I tried to write you
But I cannot make your choice
Your lips they move,
But they make no sound

And what the cost
What the price
I'm the brunt of friends' advice
Don't look up till you feel the ground . . .

I'm letting go 'cause holdin' on is killing me
My timing can be criminally slow
Too little too late
Criminally slow

Seven times I asked forgiveness
Seven times I'll wait you out
Seasons will change before words come round
And in my search for reasons
I will wash away the doubt
That came wrapped inside a wedding gown

And what the price
What the cost
Is this the poetry of loss
The past we build is all torn down?

I'm letting go 'cause holdin' on is killing me
My timing can be criminally slow
Is it never too late?
Criminally slow

Day 404 - Electric Light Orchestra - Telephone Line

DAY 404
Electric Light Orchestra - "Telephone Line"
From "A New World Record"

So Glenn and I have been working hard all day and I am currently typing one handed as I have an attention starved puppy in my other arm. Bella has been with us for 2 weeks and 1 day now and will be 2 months old tomorrow. She is used to being our center of attention but we are trying to slowly ween her into being a little more independent. Today she had no choice but to tag along from time to time and play on her own as Glenn and I have been CRAZY busy today with making a few fence repairs, yard work, and re-arranging the house. We are really cleaning things out and getting rid of crap we either do not need or want. Stuff that has been sitting around collecting dust and such.

So to keep us motivated we have had music on all day and as I took a breather from chores I realized I had not chosen "Telephone Line" by Electric Light Orchestra. This is most certainly one of my favorite songs of all time. Seriously could not believe I had not picked it yet. I love the doo whop sound a lot anyway but the way Jeff Lynne produces it makes this song pure magic!

Check out the song and video on this YouTube clip. It is amazing.

Day 403 - Allman Brothers Band - Ramblin' Man

DAY 403
Allman Brothers Band - "Ramblin' Man"
From "Brothers and Sisters"

This is one of my favorite songs by the Allman Brothers Band. I heard it on the radio and caught myself just rocking out to it. It is a great classic rock song. I find myself really vibing on the classic rock genre nowadays...

As good as this song is it appears due to some stiff competition it only cracked the #2 spot on the Billboard Top 100 chart at the time.

You can click here to hear a pretty clear recording of the song.

And here is a cool and rare live performance of the song. Rumor has it the band did not tend to play this song live a whole lot due to the complexity of the song structure. It required them to be more precise. The band apparently was more enthusiastic about playing "off the cuff" and did not want to destroy this song. Interesting....

Day 402 - David Gray - You're The World To Me

DAY 402
David Gray - "You're The World To Me"
From "Greatest Hits"

I have heard this song a few times on the radio and everytime I hear it I think, "I NEED to put this song in my top 10,000" so today is the day!

This song reminds me of the great classic rock songs of the late '60's and early '70's. It just has a nice groove to it and has a more genuine and raw delivery.

I did a little research on David Gray, as I was not certain I was familiar with his other music. Turns out I am a lil more familiar than I thought. He is probably bets known for his song "Babylon" from his 4th album "White Ladder" which was released in 2001.

This song is just a feel good tune. My Favorite line is:

"You don't have to turn the sound up
Babe I want you from the ground up "

Sexy... ;)

Day 401 - Shakespear's Sister - I Don't Care

DAY 401
Shakespear's Sister - "I Don't Care"
From "Hormonally Yours"

So I was listening to this song the other night and remembered how much I love to sing it. The vocalists are so amazing. The lower vocals are so rich and enchanting and the higher vocals are so clear and pristine.

It is such a challenge to sing along with. If i warm my voice up enough i can hit the highest note in the song, but ONLY if I am warmed up otherwise forget it. :P

It also has one of the most fun and groovy bass lines ever!!!

Check out the song and video on this YouTube clip. It is awesome! This is some good early '90's music!
