Day 352 - Wilco - Jesus, etc.

DAY 352
Wilco – "Jesus, etc.”
From "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"

This is such an fantastic arrangement and the vibe is so mellow... it is the perfect song to listen to when laying on the ground on a mild sunny day and just BE.

Wilco is such a wonderful band. A lot of their songs seem simple but are really just amazing creations.

There is not much I can say about this song other than it takes my breath away. I sincerely hope if you have not heard it you will do yourself a favor and check it out.

Here is a nice YouTube link to the song/video and I will even post the lyrics here because they are beautiful and they should be understood when listening to receive the full impact of this work of art.

Jesus, don't cry
You can rely on me honey
You can combine anything you want
I'll be around
You were right about the stars
Each one is a setting sun

Tall building shake
Voices escape singing sad sad songs
Tuned to chords strung down your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

Don't cry
You can rely on me honey
You can come by any time you want
I'll be around
You were right about the stars
Each one is a setting sun

Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad sad songs
Tuned to chords strung down your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

Voices whine
Skyscrapers are scraping together
Your voice is smoking
Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around

Our love
Our love
Our love is all we have
Our love
Our love is all of God's money
Everyone is a burning sun

Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad sad songs
Tuned to chords strung down your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

Voices whine
Skyscrapers are scraping together
Your voice is smoking
Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around

Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around

Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around

Day 351 - Wings - Bluebird

DAY 351
Wings – "Bluebird”
From "Band on the Run"

Glenn and I have had an awesome Saturday. We slept in, got a ton of house work finished, and listened to our top 10,000 lists while doing so. This song came on and Glenn said it was his song choice and I challenged him and said it could be mine. We made a "couples" wager and... well... I lost. :P Mwahahahaha... :) (In a "couples" wager can you really lose? hehehe ;) Either way...)

I adore this song and I am truly shocked that I have not picked it. It really is a lovers song. It is so sweet and romantic. I think you really need to have a soul mate to appreciate this song.

Check out this live performance of the song on YouTube. It is lovely...

Day 350 - Hole - Miss World

DAY 350
Hole – "Miss World”
From "Live Through This"

We have been having fun playing "Rock Star" on PS2 tonight at our buddies house and there is a song by Hole on the game which began a little Hole discussion. One of our friends hates Hole, (Ms. Love especially/specifically.) I have always been somewhat of a fan of Hole's material, though I have never seen them live and don't know I would really want to pay to see them, but a few of their songs are still my favorites.

"Miss World" is definitely near the top of that list. Check out the video and the song on this YouTube clip. So what if it is kinda a self pity party song, I likes it... dunno why... just do.. :P

Gorillaz – "Re-hash”
From "Gorillaz"

Glenn and I were rockin' out to this album on our way over to our friends place and I totally have to pick this song because I always move and groove to it. I can hardly understand the lyrics, but it does not matter, I just love this track!

Day 348 - Elton John - Bennie and the Jets

DAY 348
Elton John – "Bennie and the Jets”
From "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"

I have missed a couple days over the holidays, but now the craziness is over and things can get back to semi normal... :P

So I was driving to work in some nasty snowy weather and this song popped on the radio and made my drive a little nicer, so I decided it was the song of the day for me.

My Dad really enjoyed this song when I was growing up so I have a lot of great memories attached to this tune.

Here is a cool live performance of Elton performing this song in 1976. I also like this YouTube clip featuring the studio version of "Bennie and the Jets."

Day 347 - Odds - Yes (Means It's Hard To Say No)

DAY 347
Odds – "Yes (Means It's Hard To Say No)”
From "Bedbugs"

Odds write a lot of catchy tunes.

I am forever humming this song or singing this song or so it seems. Ever since i heard it I always tell Glenn, "See this is what you should sing to me." Cuz he always says he can't say no to me. :P

It is sweet.

Craig Northey's voice reminds me a lot of my good buddy Ken Mahru's voice. Just realized that while checking out the song again. Nice. :)

The lyrics are very cool.. and so... I will post them...

Friends will agree
with a pregnant pause
and silently
draw out their claws
It's hard to say no to your face
running away's as easy as running in place
Yes means it's hard to say no to you
and that means I'll do things I don't want to
These are a few
of my dangerous things
You'll have to cut me in two
to count my rings
It's hard to say no to your face
running away's as easy as running in place
Yes means it's hard to say no to you
and that means I'll do things I don't want to
After writing down my darkest thoughts
I should feel just fine
Anyway, would you wanna hear me whine?
All of the bad
is good in disguise
hear me, say OK
but look in my eyes, look in my eyes
Yes means it's hard to say no to you
and that means I'll do things I don't want to
Yes means it's hard to say no to you
and that means I'll do things I don't want to

Day 346 - Basia - Copernicus

DAY 346
Basia – "Copernicus”
From "London Warsaw New York"

I surprised myself when I looked at my top 10,000 list thus far and saw I had not chosen a song by Basia yet.

I am a big fan of Basia, but this album specifically and especially. This song, "Copernicus", is probably my favorite track on the album. I love the flow of it and how she delivers every lyric.

Basia is such an amazing vocalist and her songs contain such creative arrangements that you often don't expect what comes next when listening to her material.

I doubt this will be the last time she shows up on my list.... so many artists and so little room in my brain to remember everything I wish i could...

Day 345 - Mott The Hoople - All The Young Dudes

DAY 345
Mott the Hoople – "All The Young Dudes”
From Single release from 1972. (All The Young Dudes was the "A" side, One Of The Boys was the "B" side.)

The funniest things occur that bring certain songs to mind. Glenn was reminding me of a movie trailer we had seen for a movie coming out that we would both like to see called "Juno" and there was a tiny clip where this song was audible and I just had to pick this song!

I just find it very charming and the chorus is so damn catchy who wouldn't love it? :)

"All the Young Dudes" is a song written by David Bowie, originally recorded and released as a single by Mott the Hoople in 1972. NME editors Roy Carr and Charles Shaar Murray have described the track as "one of that rare breed: rock songs which hymn the solidarity of the disaffected without distress or sentimentality".

The lyrics are very interesting when you understand them. So listen to this YouTube clip which features the studio version of "All The Young Dudes" and read the lyrics while you listen. Enjoy...

Well billy rapped all night about his suicide
How he kick it in the head when he was twenty-five
Speed jive dont want to stay alive
When youre twenty-five
And wendys stealing clothes from marks and sparks
And freedys got spots from ripping off the stars from his face
Funky little boat race
Television man is crazy saying were juvenile deliquent wrecks
Oh man I need tv when I got t rex
Oh brother you guessed
Im a dude dad
All the young dudes (hey dudes)
Carry the news (where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (stand up come on)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear you)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (and I want to talk to you all of you)
Carry the news

Now lucy looks sweet cause he dresses like a queen
But he can kick like a mule its a real mean team
But we can love oh yes we can love
And my brothers back at home with his beatles and his stones
We never got it off on that revolution stuff
What a drag too many snags
Now Ive drunk a lot of wine and Im feeling fine
Got to race some cat to bed
Oh is there concrete all around
Or is it in my head
Yeah
Im a dude dad
All the young dudes (hey dudes)
Carry the news (where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (stand up)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear ya)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (and I want to relate to you)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (what dudes)

Carry the news (lets hear the news come on)
Boogaloo dudes (I want to kick you)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (hey you there with the glasses)
Carry the news (I want you)
Boogaloo dudes (I want you at the front)
Carry the news (now you all his friends)
All the young dudes (now you bring him down cause I want him)
Carry the news
Boogaloo dudes (I want him right here bring him come on)
Carry the news (bring him here you go)

Day 344 - Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham Carter - A Little Priest

DAY 344
Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham Carter – "A Little Priest”
From "Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet [SOUNDTRACK]"

So I had the opportunity to see a sneak preview of "Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street" and it was wonderful! Disturbing in the most delightful way!

I believe Glenn will be picking a song from the movie as well, if not this song. I adored all of the songs in the movie, I adored the visuals, I found the story line brilliantly executed... it was just fabulous.

I have always been intrigued by dark stories that have a twisted way of making the unthinkable somewhat tolerable. I love a film that challenges your imagination and runs wild FOR you. That is a strange description but it is the best I can do at this hour.... :P

This song describes the plan that is concocted between Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter's characters to put the corpses they have acquired to "good" use.

Day 343 - Ellis Paul - The Dragonfly Races

DAY 343
Ellis Paul – "The Dragonfly Races”
From "The Dragonfly Races"

This one has already tickled my ears because it is just so cute and fun. Ellis just released this song/album "The Dragonfly Races" this fall and it is genius!

His idea was to write a childrens album. He would hear his daughter singing songs all the time and realized that he never heard her sing his songs. So he wrote an album that would hold the interest of children.

But as geared for children as this album is, it is a lot of fun for adults to listen to as well. It still gleams the sound and writing style of the very talented and creative Ellis Paul. I seriously question if this man is capable of writing a bad song....Granted that sounds silly, but I have yet to come across a song by Ellis Paul that I flat out dislike in any way.

This album boasts some great values and lessons for kids. A must for any parent who is a fan of folk music. :)

Day 342 - The Kinks - Celluloid Heroes

DAY 342
The Kinks – "Celluloid Heroes”
From "Everybody's in Showbiz"

My brother and I were chatting about this song this evening and I had not thought of it in a long time. I was actually introduced to this song by Joan Jett's cover on her album "The Hit List."

This is a really interesting take on fame and fortune and the perception of some choice celebrities who obtained stars on Hollywood Blvd.

The lyrics are orchestrated so amazingly. I love this version about as much as I love Joan Jett's version.

You can check out this live performance of The Kinks performing this song on YouTube if you like.

Day 341 - Hall & Oates - Sara Smile

DAY 341
Hall & Oates – "Sara Smile”
From "Daryl Hall & John Oates"

This song is one of my favorites for many reasons. I adore how it is arranged, I adore Daryl Halls vocals, it is just so sweet and sexy.

My husband tends to do some MEAN karaoke to "Sara Smile." He rocks it in a way that only my husband can. I LOVE to watch/hear him sing it. :)

Daryl Hall and John Oates are both such amazingly talented people. They may not have always gotten the credit they have deserved throughout their careers, but they have undoubtedly continued to maintain the "chops" to prove they are very talented. Though I may not adore all of their music I have been a fan quite literally my whole life. (I had the biggest crush on Daryl Hall when I was a very little girl. :P)

I still always have to snap my fingers after he sings the lyrics, "All alone with me and we're waiting for the sunlight." Try it... it feels good and fits that spot so nicely. :P That is me being silly, but you could ask Glenn any day and I ALWAYS have to snap for that part. Seriously... :P I have to groove to this track when it comes on over the intercom in department stores and everything.... and I have to snap my fingers. TRADITIONS! Gotta love it!

Check out the song on this YouTube clip. Also check out this more recent live performance that I think is really cool as well!

Day 340 - John Denver - Take Me Home, Country Roads

DAY 340
John Denver – "Take Me Home, Country Roads”
From "Poems, Prayers and Promises"

It just kinda hit me tonight that there may be a connection between my obsession for Eliis Paul's music and John Denver. They are both incredible lyricists. They are amazing story tellers. And they both have angelic voices.

I was raised on artists like John Denver even while still in my Mama's womb. My Mom is a HUGE John Denver fan. I don't know that I always appreciate John's music when I was younger but I have always had a soft spot for his music and am a big fan now for sure. It is comforting and reminds me of my Mom. :)

"Take Me Home, Country Roads" is a great story, a great arrangement, and a very true blue kind of folky country tune. This song is just excellent.

Day 339 - Matt White - Love

DAY 339
Matt White – "Love”
From "Best Days"

Again a new song I noticed in a soundtrack... (I was watching a little bit of the movie "Little Manhattan" which was a cute little romantic comedy.) This song caught my ear immediately because it was a fun and kicky little tune.

I love listening for little gems in soundtracks... there are so many lesser known artists who have songs on TV shows and movies that you might not hear otherwise. I think a lot of them get picked up for their music because they are cheaper to pay than some better known acts and performers. But I am glad when I discover folks who tickle my ears in the happiest ways.

Matt White's voice and the arrangement make me think of Jack Johnson and John Mayer put together.

You gotta check out the video/song on this YouTube clip. This one is fun to dance all by yourself to! :D

Day 338 - Stars - My Favourite Book

DAY 338
Stars – "My Favourite Book”
From "In Our Bedroom After the War"

This is an instant favorite for me. Glenn picked it yesterday and had me listen to it today and it strikes me just right. And makes me miss my good friend Erin from Cali.... The lead vocalist reminds me so much of her....

I know nothing of this band yet but plan to listen to some more of their music.

Day 337 - Billy Joel - Goodnight Saigon

DAY 337
Billy Joel – "Goodnight Saigon”
From "The Nylon Curtain"

This is Glenn's self proclaimed favorite Billy Joel album and I believe this is one of the finest songs on the album.

"Goodnight Saigon" is emotional and genuine. It truly draws you in, even if you have never experienced the camaraderie of soldiers fighting side by side and all believing in the greater good to make a difference, you can somehow get a vibe of that kind of relationship and commitment through Billy's lyrics and the arrangement of the song.

I always get a little emotional if I listen to this song too closely because it is just so amazingly vivid in it's descriptions of these brave people and their surroundings.

Check out the song and video on this YouTube clip. It is truly an inspiration and a thing of beauty.

DAY 336
Frankie Big Case – "Run Free (Krisis Dream Mix)”

I was going to pick this song a few days ago but tonight is the night. I am in love with this song but especially this version of this song. (Yeah maybe I am a little bias because Glenn did some remixing upon the suggestion of our good friend krisis.)

This is a very well written song, and I love the arrangement. Frankie's voice is very engaging and pleasant. And Glenn's harmony parts really fill out the song.

Day 334 - Lenny Kravitz - Circus

DAY 334
Lenny Kravitz – "Circus”
From "Circus"

I am picking this song for sentimental reasons. :)

This song was my introduction to my husband. He didn't introduce himself, he didn't say hello, he was just walking down the stairs in a back room at the place we worked together and saw me and said, "Hey, have you heard the new Lenny Kravitz album? The title track goes, "Welcome to the pictures show.... "

He threw me off a little at first because I had never had someone approach me like that before but he definitely got my attention. And the rest as they say is history...

Glenn and I had the best night and the best day today. Everyday is the best when we are together. I just love him so much and he makes life amazing in a way that only he can.

I am keeping this short because today's choice is more about appreciating the past and cherishing the now and the future to come knowing I have found my other half to share everything with.

Ahhhhh... what a great weekend this has been!!! :)

Day 333 - Dan Baird - I Love You Period

DAY 333
Dan Baird – "I Love You Period”
From "Love Songs For The Hearing Impaired"

Glenn reminded me of this song when he was being silly and singing a different song... He was parodying a Neil Sedaka song called "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" where he sings the lyrics:

Come on baby, let's start a new
'Cause breaking up is hard to do
Do-be-do-dum-dum
Do-be-do-be-dum
Do-be-do-dum-dum
Do-be-do-be-dum
Do-be-do-be-dum
Do-be-do-be
Don't break my heart.

And it sounds like "Comma comma down do-be-do-down down, comma comma down do-be-do-down down." The comma comma thing reminded me of "I Love You Period" just because of the punctuation reference.

I really loved this song the first time I heard it on the radio... I think it was in 1991 so I would have been 14 I believe... hehehe. I just loved that the lyrics were so creative and cute. Dan's voice reminds me a lot of George Thorogood on this song. Check out the lyrics... sadly I could not find a video clip of Dan performing the song so track it down cuz it is a lot of fun. :)

Back when I was goin' to school,
I never learned a thing
All I did was daydream,
a-waitin' for the bell to ring
I had a certain teacher,
I always tried to impress her
When she stood up in the classroom,
I would mentally undress her
Then one day I decided,
that I would write a little letter
She said the spellin' was a masterpiece,
the punctuation could be better
I understood what she was saying,
I got the gist of her sentiment
She said "I don't mean to be degrading,
"but here's the way that it should've went:"

Chorus) I love you period
Do you love me question mark
Please, please exclamation point
I want to hold you in parentheses
I love you period
Do you love me question mark
Please, please exclamation point
I want to hold you in parentheses

Right on up to high school,
people said I was a writin' fool
All my letters became really great,
with punctuation that was never late
But I was havin' trouble meetin' girls,
I never knew the things to say
Soon I had 'em all overwhelmed,
when they heard me talk this way, like this:

Chorus) I love you period
Do you love me question mark
Please, please exclamation point
I want to hold you in parentheses
I love you period
Do you love me question mark
Please, please exclamation point
I want to hold you in parentheses
