DAY 368
Yael Naïm - "New Soul"
From "Yael Naïm"
I am choosing this song today because I like it. This is the third song in recent history that I discovered as the result of hearing it in a TV commercial. A Mac TV commercial no less!
It has the same effect on me as songs by artists such as Feist, Ingrid Michaelson, etc.

Day 367 - Ben's Brother - Kiss Me Again (Stuttering)
DAY 367
Ben's Brother - "Kiss Me Again (Stuttering)"
From "Beta Male Fairytales"
Who says we can't find something cool in commercials today! Hahaha... anyways... :P
This is the second song that kinda kicks some major ass that I have discovered in the past few months due to hearing it in a commercial, which made me recognize it when it popped on the radio today!
I just adore the lyrics and the way the lyrics are delivered. It is another sweet, relateable, genuine track that just makes you feel it. Something about the words, "Kiss me again..." MMMMMMmmmmmmMMMMMMMmmmmmm.... sexy.... ;)
Check out the song on this YouTube clip. (I could not locate a video, but then again the band just hit big in August of 2007 so they may not have one yet and I am too tired to research at the moment.)
Check out the lyrics, really... they are awesome....
It's been, it's been, it's been, it's been
su-su-such a long time, long time, long time
since anybody touched me, touched me, touched me
the way that you touch me
So if I stutter, stutter, stutter
and I feel so so so unsexy
so maybe I'll just keep my mouth shut at least until you kiss me
So kiss me again
Cause only you can stop this stut-stut-stut-stuttering
Kiss me again
And ease my su-su-su su-su-su su-su-su suffering
I know I know
it's so it's so sy-sy-symbolic of everything
Everything that's wrong with me and you
So tell me what I'm supposed to do
Oh it's been ages since we've been really honest
but I can make ch-ch-ch-changes if you really want this
So kiss me again
Cause only you can stop this stut-stut-stut-stuttering
Kiss me again
And ease my su-su-su su-su-su su-su-su suffering
Kiss me again
Cause only you can stop this stut-stut-stut-stut-stuttering

DAY 366
Goodness - "Wicked Eye"
From "Goodness"
This song is such a kick ass tune! Carrie Akre delivers an amazing and powerful vocal that just hits hard! She is truly one of my favorite vocalists of all time...

DAY 365
Meiko - "You & Onions (Hidden Track on Album)"
From "Meiko"
I just discovered Meiko today on the website www.thesixtyone.com , and this was the first song I listened to of hers just because the title was so unique. It is a creatively written track and I look forward to learning more about her.
Check out the lyrics and listen to the song... maybe you would like it too... :)
"I'm a hot dog
Sittin in the fog
Waitin for my day in the sun
And I'm all alone
Far away from home
Just me, my mustard, and my bun
And though I miss you
But time is on my side
And though I need you
But you and onions make me cry
And I'm all beef
But I have a heart
And it's splitting now that you've gone away
And I wish everything was kosher as me
But I'm not healthy for you anyway
And though I miss you
But time is on my side
And though I need you
But you and onions make me cry"

Day 364 - George Michael - Fast Love
DAY 364
George Michael - "Fast Love"
From "Fast Love (Single Release)"
I am normally not really into this genre of music, but this specific song just makes me wanna dance whenever it is on. The lyrical content does not really affect me, but I love the arrangement. It is really odd for me because most of the time the lyrics are a big deal for me. This song is kinda cheesy lyrically, but the beat and arrangement are a body rockin' combination. And I do LOVE to dance!
George Michael, despite all the bad media, is also a very talented entertainer. Check out the song/video on this YouTube clip.

From "Lurch"
No time to talk about why I love this, and that's a shame because I do love it.
Glenn introduced me to this song. He heard it on thesixtyone.com and I fell for it instantly. This song wouldn't sound out of place in Queen's songbook, and there's a fearlessness in tackling lyrics like these with such confidence. It's a must hear, so go hear it!

Day 362 - The Bangles - Be With You
DAY 362
The Bangles - "Be With You"
From "Everything"
I have been skulking around on YouTube today as I am sick and stayed home from work today and I came across this old hit by The Bangles. My sister and I LOVED The Bangles as young teeny boppers.
The talent of The Bangles often goes unappreciated, but they were truly fantastic musicians, singers, and song writers. It was such an oddity to see 4 women who all 4 could sing very well, could write and play really well, and had a feminine rock edge that made you really respect them yet they were all really attractive.
I remember when this song came out and when the video was released I thought it was SO awesome that a drummer could sing a lead vocal and still keep everything together.
And I desperately wanted to be Michael Steele, (the bass player.) I thought she looked so cool and tough! :P
Check out the song/video on YouTube and travel back to the early '90's with me. Good times... ;)
(The Wikipedia on The Bangles is very interesting as well.)

DAY 361
Heart - "Alone"
From "Bad Animals"
This specific Heart song is one of my all time favorites. I remember my sister and I used to sing this together and I really fell in love with it... Anne's vocal is so strong and exudes sheer power! I think that this song really influenced how I wanted to come across as a vocalist. The arrangement is so amazing and full of passion. I also love how the lyrics bring visuals to your mind so easily.

DAY 360
Rolling Stones - "Wild Horses"
From "Sticky Fingers"
So tonight Glenn and I had a great visit with my Aunt and Uncle, (two of the most amazing people on the planet.) My Aunt is a big time Rolling Stones fan and we chatted about them a little here and there as music is always a big topic between the 4 of us.
This Rolling Stones song is one of my favorites because it has a sultry vibe for a rock ballad. It seems so genuine and heartfelt.
It gives me a sense of living for today... forget all the garbage and just live.

DAY 357
Eddie Vedder – "Guaranteed”
From "Into The Wild - Motion Picture Soundtrack"
Just hearing this song makes me want to check out the movie. I caught a small clip of this song on a TV show commercial preview thing and it instantly caught my ear.
Eddie Vedder wrote this song for the soundtrack of Into The Wild. (Into The Wild is based on the book written by Jon Krakauer of the same name about the adventures of Christopher McCandless, a top student at Emory University and an athlete.)
This song is very powerful musically and lyrically and really made me consider it even though I initially did not want to pay much attention...

Day 356 - Ingrid Michaelson - Die Alone
DAY 356
Ingrid Michaelson – "Die Alone”
From "Girls and Boys"
So I have a slight obsession with this album right now. So yesterday while at Best Buy I bought this album. It was a reasonable price of $9.99. It was a necessary purchase believe me.
"Die Alone" has some wonderful characteristics. I adore the harmonies, and again the lyrics are stellar. The arrangement is unique and very clever. This one is a groover... one you can really dance to in your own little corner.
I especially like how she sings the chorus:
"I never thought I could love anyone but myself.
Now I know I can't love anyone but you.
You make me think that maybe I won't die alone.
Maybe I won't die alone."
The line "Now I know I can't love anyone but you" is so fun to sing along with.

Day 355 - Ingrid Michaelson - Breakable
DAY 355
Ingrid Michaelson – "Breakable”
From "Girls and Boys"
I adore this womans music, the more I discover about her the more I love her music and her lyrics. I was so excited the other day when I heard her on the radio, (I heard The Kooks the other day too and it gave me this little pin hole of light that maybe, just maybe, there may be some reason to listen to radio once again!)
I had seen a small blurb on VH1 about Ingrid Michaelson and she says she try to say as much as she can without using too many words. I think that is so neat because that writing style makes you choose your words with such tender love and care.
"Breakable" is so touching because it is just so human, and , my favorite description, relatable. :)
Check out the song on this YouTube clip... listen to the creative lyrics... Brilliance!!!!

Day 354 - Jack Johnson - Banana Pancakes
DAY 354
Jack Johnson – "Banana Pancakes”
From "In Between Dreams"
Today would have been a great Banana Pancake day. I had to take Glenn to the airport at 3am and then try to come home and sleep a little more. I don't sleep very well without him... This would have been a great day to play hookie if I did not have meetings the next 2 days. *sigh* work, work, work...
We really need more Banana Pancake days in general. :)
I just love the simplicity of this song and of Jack Johnson's material. The opening guitar lick is so warm and welcoming.
Check out this live performance and this studio version on a cute animated clip from YouTube.
I got lots of love for the lovey songs. :)

Day 353 - Dan Fogelberg - Leader of the Band
DAY 353
Dan Fogelberg – "Leader of the Band”
From "The Innocent Age"
I was only 4 years old when this album was released which I think is just so magical. I love how music stretches through to so many generations. It really is quite amazing. Immortality through music. Beautiful.
I was blown away when I was looking through my past song picks and found this song missing. This song could easily make it into my top 10 favorite songs for very personal reasons. Dan wrote this song in tribute to his father, but "Leader of the Band" has kind of been a special song for my family as we are all somewhat musically inclined. My Grandfather was the root of our musical passion. And my father is very musically inspired as well. That love and passion has passed down to me and my siblings and I am sure will live on to some extent in the generations to come.
Which is why our story fits so well with the story in the song. My parents and grandparents have affected me and my siblings through music that will live on through us until we die. I only hope that I will leave some of the younger generation some of that same love and passion for music as it has and always will be my safe place... my therapy.
"Leader of the Band" is a very touching and glorious song. It truly touches my heart.
Feel free to enjoy this tribute video to Dan Fogelberg on YouTube featuring the studio version of "Leader of the Band."
