Day 358 - Pete Yorn - Life on a Chain

DAY 358
Pete Yorn – "Life on a Chain”
From "Musicforthemorningafter"

I just adore this song. No real special reasons why, it just has a fun arrangement, has a lot of character, and unique production that my ears appreciate. The intro is extremely cool...

I really like to hear Glenn sing it on a semi regular basis as well.

Check out the song/video on this YouTube clip. It is THE AWESOME! :)

Day 357 - Eddie Vedder - Guaranteed

DAY 357
Eddie Vedder – "Guaranteed”
From "Into The Wild - Motion Picture Soundtrack"

Just hearing this song makes me want to check out the movie. I caught a small clip of this song on a TV show commercial preview thing and it instantly caught my ear.

Eddie Vedder wrote this song for the soundtrack of Into The Wild. (Into The Wild is based on the book written by Jon Krakauer of the same name about the adventures of Christopher McCandless, a top student at Emory University and an athlete.)

This song is very powerful musically and lyrically and really made me consider it even though I initially did not want to pay much attention...

Day 356 - Ingrid Michaelson - Die Alone

DAY 356
Ingrid Michaelson – "Die Alone”
From "Girls and Boys"

So I have a slight obsession with this album right now. So yesterday while at Best Buy I bought this album. It was a reasonable price of $9.99. It was a necessary purchase believe me.

"Die Alone" has some wonderful characteristics. I adore the harmonies, and again the lyrics are stellar. The arrangement is unique and very clever. This one is a groover... one you can really dance to in your own little corner.

I especially like how she sings the chorus:

"I never thought I could love anyone but myself.
Now I know I can't love anyone but you.
You make me think that maybe I won't die alone.
Maybe I won't die alone."

The line "Now I know I can't love anyone but you" is so fun to sing along with.

Day 355 - Ingrid Michaelson - Breakable

DAY 355
Ingrid Michaelson – "Breakable”
From "Girls and Boys"

I adore this womans music, the more I discover about her the more I love her music and her lyrics. I was so excited the other day when I heard her on the radio, (I heard The Kooks the other day too and it gave me this little pin hole of light that maybe, just maybe, there may be some reason to listen to radio once again!)

I had seen a small blurb on VH1 about Ingrid Michaelson and she says she try to say as much as she can without using too many words. I think that is so neat because that writing style makes you choose your words with such tender love and care.

"Breakable" is so touching because it is just so human, and , my favorite description, relatable. :)

Check out the song on this YouTube clip... listen to the creative lyrics... Brilliance!!!!

Day 354 - Jack Johnson - Banana Pancakes

DAY 354
Jack Johnson – "Banana Pancakes”
From "In Between Dreams"

Today would have been a great Banana Pancake day. I had to take Glenn to the airport at 3am and then try to come home and sleep a little more. I don't sleep very well without him... This would have been a great day to play hookie if I did not have meetings the next 2 days. *sigh* work, work, work...

We really need more Banana Pancake days in general. :)

I just love the simplicity of this song and of Jack Johnson's material. The opening guitar lick is so warm and welcoming.

Day 353 - Dan Fogelberg - Leader of the Band

DAY 353
Dan Fogelberg – "Leader of the Band”
From "The Innocent Age"

I was only 4 years old when this album was released which I think is just so magical. I love how music stretches through to so many generations. It really is quite amazing. Immortality through music. Beautiful.

I was blown away when I was looking through my past song picks and found this song missing. This song could easily make it into my top 10 favorite songs for very personal reasons. Dan wrote this song in tribute to his father, but "Leader of the Band" has kind of been a special song for my family as we are all somewhat musically inclined. My Grandfather was the root of our musical passion. And my father is very musically inspired as well. That love and passion has passed down to me and my siblings and I am sure will live on to some extent in the generations to come.

Which is why our story fits so well with the story in the song. My parents and grandparents have affected me and my siblings through music that will live on through us until we die. I only hope that I will leave some of the younger generation some of that same love and passion for music as it has and always will be my safe place... my therapy.

"Leader of the Band" is a very touching and glorious song. It truly touches my heart.

Feel free to enjoy this tribute video to Dan Fogelberg on YouTube featuring the studio version of "Leader of the Band."

Day 352 - Wilco - Jesus, etc.

DAY 352
Wilco – "Jesus, etc.”
From "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"

This is such an fantastic arrangement and the vibe is so mellow... it is the perfect song to listen to when laying on the ground on a mild sunny day and just BE.

Wilco is such a wonderful band. A lot of their songs seem simple but are really just amazing creations.

There is not much I can say about this song other than it takes my breath away. I sincerely hope if you have not heard it you will do yourself a favor and check it out.

Here is a nice YouTube link to the song/video and I will even post the lyrics here because they are beautiful and they should be understood when listening to receive the full impact of this work of art.

Jesus, don't cry
You can rely on me honey
You can combine anything you want
I'll be around
You were right about the stars
Each one is a setting sun

Tall building shake
Voices escape singing sad sad songs
Tuned to chords strung down your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

Don't cry
You can rely on me honey
You can come by any time you want
I'll be around
You were right about the stars
Each one is a setting sun

Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad sad songs
Tuned to chords strung down your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

Voices whine
Skyscrapers are scraping together
Your voice is smoking
Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around

Our love
Our love
Our love is all we have
Our love
Our love is all of God's money
Everyone is a burning sun

Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad sad songs
Tuned to chords strung down your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

Voices whine
Skyscrapers are scraping together
Your voice is smoking
Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around

Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around

Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around

Day 351 - Wings - Bluebird

DAY 351
Wings – "Bluebird”
From "Band on the Run"

Glenn and I have had an awesome Saturday. We slept in, got a ton of house work finished, and listened to our top 10,000 lists while doing so. This song came on and Glenn said it was his song choice and I challenged him and said it could be mine. We made a "couples" wager and... well... I lost. :P Mwahahahaha... :) (In a "couples" wager can you really lose? hehehe ;) Either way...)

I adore this song and I am truly shocked that I have not picked it. It really is a lovers song. It is so sweet and romantic. I think you really need to have a soul mate to appreciate this song.

Day 350 - Hole - Miss World

DAY 350
Hole – "Miss World”
From "Live Through This"

We have been having fun playing "Rock Star" on PS2 tonight at our buddies house and there is a song by Hole on the game which began a little Hole discussion. One of our friends hates Hole, (Ms. Love especially/specifically.) I have always been somewhat of a fan of Hole's material, though I have never seen them live and don't know I would really want to pay to see them, but a few of their songs are still my favorites.

"Miss World" is definitely near the top of that list. Check out the video and the song on this YouTube clip. So what if it is kinda a self pity party song, I likes it... dunno why... just do.. :P

DAY 348
Elton John – "Bennie and the Jets”
From "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"

I have missed a couple days over the holidays, but now the craziness is over and things can get back to semi normal... :P

So I was driving to work in some nasty snowy weather and this song popped on the radio and made my drive a little nicer, so I decided it was the song of the day for me.

My Dad really enjoyed this song when I was growing up so I have a lot of great memories attached to this tune.

Day 347 - Odds - Yes (Means It's Hard To Say No)

DAY 347
Odds – "Yes (Means It's Hard To Say No)”
From "Bedbugs"

Odds write a lot of catchy tunes.

I am forever humming this song or singing this song or so it seems. Ever since i heard it I always tell Glenn, "See this is what you should sing to me." Cuz he always says he can't say no to me. :P

It is sweet.

Craig Northey's voice reminds me a lot of my good buddy Ken Mahru's voice. Just realized that while checking out the song again. Nice. :)

The lyrics are very cool.. and so... I will post them...

Friends will agree
with a pregnant pause
and silently
draw out their claws
It's hard to say no to your face
running away's as easy as running in place
Yes means it's hard to say no to you
and that means I'll do things I don't want to
These are a few
of my dangerous things
You'll have to cut me in two
to count my rings
It's hard to say no to your face
running away's as easy as running in place
Yes means it's hard to say no to you
and that means I'll do things I don't want to
After writing down my darkest thoughts
I should feel just fine
Anyway, would you wanna hear me whine?
All of the bad
is good in disguise
hear me, say OK
but look in my eyes, look in my eyes
Yes means it's hard to say no to you
and that means I'll do things I don't want to
Yes means it's hard to say no to you
and that means I'll do things I don't want to

Day 346 - Basia - Copernicus

DAY 346
Basia – "Copernicus”
From "London Warsaw New York"

I surprised myself when I looked at my top 10,000 list thus far and saw I had not chosen a song by Basia yet.

I am a big fan of Basia, but this album specifically and especially. This song, "Copernicus", is probably my favorite track on the album. I love the flow of it and how she delivers every lyric.

Basia is such an amazing vocalist and her songs contain such creative arrangements that you often don't expect what comes next when listening to her material.

I doubt this will be the last time she shows up on my list.... so many artists and so little room in my brain to remember everything I wish i could...

Day 345 - Mott The Hoople - All The Young Dudes

DAY 345
Mott the Hoople – "All The Young Dudes”
From Single release from 1972. (All The Young Dudes was the "A" side, One Of The Boys was the "B" side.)

The funniest things occur that bring certain songs to mind. Glenn was reminding me of a movie trailer we had seen for a movie coming out that we would both like to see called "Juno" and there was a tiny clip where this song was audible and I just had to pick this song!

I just find it very charming and the chorus is so damn catchy who wouldn't love it? :)

"All the Young Dudes" is a song written by David Bowie, originally recorded and released as a single by Mott the Hoople in 1972. NME editors Roy Carr and Charles Shaar Murray have described the track as "one of that rare breed: rock songs which hymn the solidarity of the disaffected without distress or sentimentality".

The lyrics are very interesting when you understand them. So listen to this YouTube clip which features the studio version of "All The Young Dudes" and read the lyrics while you listen. Enjoy...

Well billy rapped all night about his suicide
How he kick it in the head when he was twenty-five
Speed jive dont want to stay alive
When youre twenty-five
And wendys stealing clothes from marks and sparks
And freedys got spots from ripping off the stars from his face
Funky little boat race
Television man is crazy saying were juvenile deliquent wrecks
Oh man I need tv when I got t rex
Oh brother you guessed
Im a dude dad
All the young dudes (hey dudes)
Carry the news (where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (stand up come on)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear you)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (and I want to talk to you all of you)
Carry the news

Now lucy looks sweet cause he dresses like a queen
But he can kick like a mule its a real mean team
But we can love oh yes we can love
And my brothers back at home with his beatles and his stones
We never got it off on that revolution stuff
What a drag too many snags
Now Ive drunk a lot of wine and Im feeling fine
Got to race some cat to bed
Oh is there concrete all around
Or is it in my head
Yeah
Im a dude dad
All the young dudes (hey dudes)
Carry the news (where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (stand up)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear ya)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (and I want to relate to you)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (what dudes)

Carry the news (lets hear the news come on)
Boogaloo dudes (I want to kick you)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (hey you there with the glasses)
Carry the news (I want you)
Boogaloo dudes (I want you at the front)
Carry the news (now you all his friends)
All the young dudes (now you bring him down cause I want him)
Carry the news
Boogaloo dudes (I want him right here bring him come on)

Day 344 - Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham Carter - A Little Priest

DAY 344
Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham Carter – "A Little Priest”
From "Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet [SOUNDTRACK]"

So I had the opportunity to see a sneak preview of "Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street" and it was wonderful! Disturbing in the most delightful way!

I believe Glenn will be picking a song from the movie as well, if not this song. I adored all of the songs in the movie, I adored the visuals, I found the story line brilliantly executed... it was just fabulous.

I have always been intrigued by dark stories that have a twisted way of making the unthinkable somewhat tolerable. I love a film that challenges your imagination and runs wild FOR you. That is a strange description but it is the best I can do at this hour.... :P

This song describes the plan that is concocted between Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter's characters to put the corpses they have acquired to "good" use.

Day 343 - Ellis Paul - The Dragonfly Races

DAY 343
Ellis Paul – "The Dragonfly Races”
From "The Dragonfly Races"

This one has already tickled my ears because it is just so cute and fun. Ellis just released this song/album "The Dragonfly Races" this fall and it is genius!

His idea was to write a childrens album. He would hear his daughter singing songs all the time and realized that he never heard her sing his songs. So he wrote an album that would hold the interest of children.

But as geared for children as this album is, it is a lot of fun for adults to listen to as well. It still gleams the sound and writing style of the very talented and creative Ellis Paul. I seriously question if this man is capable of writing a bad song....Granted that sounds silly, but I have yet to come across a song by Ellis Paul that I flat out dislike in any way.

This album boasts some great values and lessons for kids. A must for any parent who is a fan of folk music. :)

Day 342 - The Kinks - Celluloid Heroes

DAY 342
The Kinks – "Celluloid Heroes”
From "Everybody's in Showbiz"

My brother and I were chatting about this song this evening and I had not thought of it in a long time. I was actually introduced to this song by Joan Jett's cover on her album "The Hit List."

This is a really interesting take on fame and fortune and the perception of some choice celebrities who obtained stars on Hollywood Blvd.

The lyrics are orchestrated so amazingly. I love this version about as much as I love Joan Jett's version.

Day 341 - Hall & Oates - Sara Smile

DAY 341
Hall & Oates – "Sara Smile”
From "Daryl Hall & John Oates"

This song is one of my favorites for many reasons. I adore how it is arranged, I adore Daryl Halls vocals, it is just so sweet and sexy.

My husband tends to do some MEAN karaoke to "Sara Smile." He rocks it in a way that only my husband can. I LOVE to watch/hear him sing it. :)

Daryl Hall and John Oates are both such amazingly talented people. They may not have always gotten the credit they have deserved throughout their careers, but they have undoubtedly continued to maintain the "chops" to prove they are very talented. Though I may not adore all of their music I have been a fan quite literally my whole life. (I had the biggest crush on Daryl Hall when I was a very little girl. :P)

I still always have to snap my fingers after he sings the lyrics, "All alone with me and we're waiting for the sunlight." Try it... it feels good and fits that spot so nicely. :P That is me being silly, but you could ask Glenn any day and I ALWAYS have to snap for that part. Seriously... :P I have to groove to this track when it comes on over the intercom in department stores and everything.... and I have to snap my fingers. TRADITIONS! Gotta love it!

Day 340 - John Denver - Take Me Home, Country Roads

DAY 340
John Denver – "Take Me Home, Country Roads”
From "Poems, Prayers and Promises"

It just kinda hit me tonight that there may be a connection between my obsession for Eliis Paul's music and John Denver. They are both incredible lyricists. They are amazing story tellers. And they both have angelic voices.

I was raised on artists like John Denver even while still in my Mama's womb. My Mom is a HUGE John Denver fan. I don't know that I always appreciate John's music when I was younger but I have always had a soft spot for his music and am a big fan now for sure. It is comforting and reminds me of my Mom. :)

"Take Me Home, Country Roads" is a great story, a great arrangement, and a very true blue kind of folky country tune. This song is just excellent.

Day 339 - Matt White - Love

DAY 339
Matt White – "Love”
From "Best Days"

Again a new song I noticed in a soundtrack... (I was watching a little bit of the movie "Little Manhattan" which was a cute little romantic comedy.) This song caught my ear immediately because it was a fun and kicky little tune.

I love listening for little gems in soundtracks... there are so many lesser known artists who have songs on TV shows and movies that you might not hear otherwise. I think a lot of them get picked up for their music because they are cheaper to pay than some better known acts and performers. But I am glad when I discover folks who tickle my ears in the happiest ways.

Matt White's voice and the arrangement make me think of Jack Johnson and John Mayer put together.

You gotta check out the video/song on this YouTube clip. This one is fun to dance all by yourself to! :D

DAY 338
Stars – "My Favourite Book”
From "In Our Bedroom After the War"

This is an instant favorite for me. Glenn picked it yesterday and had me listen to it today and it strikes me just right. And makes me miss my good friend Erin from Cali.... The lead vocalist reminds me so much of her....

DAY 337
Billy Joel – "Goodnight Saigon”
From "The Nylon Curtain"

This is Glenn's self proclaimed favorite Billy Joel album and I believe this is one of the finest songs on the album.

"Goodnight Saigon" is emotional and genuine. It truly draws you in, even if you have never experienced the camaraderie of soldiers fighting side by side and all believing in the greater good to make a difference, you can somehow get a vibe of that kind of relationship and commitment through Billy's lyrics and the arrangement of the song.

I always get a little emotional if I listen to this song too closely because it is just so amazingly vivid in it's descriptions of these brave people and their surroundings.

Check out the song and video on this YouTube clip. It is truly an inspiration and a thing of beauty.

Day 336 - Frankie Big Case - Run Free (Krisis Dream Mix)

DAY 336
Frankie Big Case – "Run Free (Krisis Dream Mix)”

I was going to pick this song a few days ago but tonight is the night. I am in love with this song but especially this version of this song. (Yeah maybe I am a little bias because Glenn did some remixing upon the suggestion of our good friend krisis.)

This is a very well written song, and I love the arrangement. Frankie's voice is very engaging and pleasant. And Glenn's harmony parts really fill out the song.

Check out Frankie's website and his MySpace to hear more of this talented gentleman's music!

Day 334 - Lenny Kravitz - Circus

DAY 334
Lenny Kravitz – "Circus”
From "Circus"

I am picking this song for sentimental reasons. :)

This song was my introduction to my husband. He didn't introduce himself, he didn't say hello, he was just walking down the stairs in a back room at the place we worked together and saw me and said, "Hey, have you heard the new Lenny Kravitz album? The title track goes, "Welcome to the pictures show.... "

He threw me off a little at first because I had never had someone approach me like that before but he definitely got my attention. And the rest as they say is history...

Glenn and I had the best night and the best day today. Everyday is the best when we are together. I just love him so much and he makes life amazing in a way that only he can.

I am keeping this short because today's choice is more about appreciating the past and cherishing the now and the future to come knowing I have found my other half to share everything with.

Ahhhhh... what a great weekend this has been!!! :)

Check out this awesome song on this YouTube clip! :) Share in the love!!! :D

Day 333 - Dan Baird - I Love You Period

DAY 333
Dan Baird – "I Love You Period”
From "Love Songs For The Hearing Impaired"

Glenn reminded me of this song when he was being silly and singing a different song... He was parodying a Neil Sedaka song called "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" where he sings the lyrics:

Come on baby, let's start a new
'Cause breaking up is hard to do
Do-be-do-dum-dum
Do-be-do-be-dum
Do-be-do-dum-dum
Do-be-do-be-dum
Do-be-do-be-dum
Do-be-do-be
Don't break my heart.

And it sounds like "Comma comma down do-be-do-down down, comma comma down do-be-do-down down." The comma comma thing reminded me of "I Love You Period" just because of the punctuation reference.

I really loved this song the first time I heard it on the radio... I think it was in 1991 so I would have been 14 I believe... hehehe. I just loved that the lyrics were so creative and cute. Dan's voice reminds me a lot of George Thorogood on this song. Check out the lyrics... sadly I could not find a video clip of Dan performing the song so track it down cuz it is a lot of fun. :)

Back when I was goin' to school,
I never learned a thing
All I did was daydream,
a-waitin' for the bell to ring
I had a certain teacher,
I always tried to impress her
When she stood up in the classroom,
I would mentally undress her
Then one day I decided,
that I would write a little letter
She said the spellin' was a masterpiece,
the punctuation could be better
I understood what she was saying,
I got the gist of her sentiment
She said "I don't mean to be degrading,
"but here's the way that it should've went:"

Chorus) I love you period
Do you love me question mark
Please, please exclamation point
I want to hold you in parentheses
I love you period
Do you love me question mark
Please, please exclamation point
I want to hold you in parentheses

Right on up to high school,
people said I was a writin' fool
All my letters became really great,
with punctuation that was never late
But I was havin' trouble meetin' girls,
I never knew the things to say
Soon I had 'em all overwhelmed,
when they heard me talk this way, like this:

Chorus) I love you period
Do you love me question mark
Please, please exclamation point
I want to hold you in parentheses
I love you period
Do you love me question mark
Please, please exclamation point
I want to hold you in parentheses

Day 332 - Savatage - Sleep

DAY 332
Savatage – "Sleep”
From "Edge of Thorns"

I fell in love with Savatage when I was about 16. The band actualy formed in 1979 ad was founded by Jon and Criss Olivia. Zachary Stevens joined Savatage in 1993. His voice really added somthing special to their music.

This song, "Sleep" is one of my favorite tracks from this album. It is just so mellow and simple compared to much of the rest of their catalogue.

The video is pretty decent too. Check it out... :)

Day 331 - The Zombies - Tell Her No

DAY 331
The Zombies – "Tell Her No”
From Single release, B-side to "She's Not There"

I heard this on the radio last night and meant to pick it but ran out of time and energy. :P

This band is so much fun. They have that British invasion sound but never really achieved the status of the big British invasion bands. They have such a jazzy sound on this track.

I think it is neat that such a short song can make such an impact on ones musical taste and inspiration. Even though it has the flavor of many songs similar to it at the time this one really is set apart for me and always catches my attention.

Check out this awesome vintage performance on this YouTube clip, very very cool!

From "Hi Infidelity"

While riding in my brothers car the other day this song came on a mix he was playing on the stereo and I was reminded how much I love this very poppy REO Speedwagon tune.

It is just fun for a song with a story regarding break ups and such.

Day 329 - John Ondrasik - The Best

DAY 329
John Ondrasik – "The Best”
From "Everyone's Hero [SOUNDTRACK]"

So this may seem an odd choice in a way because today is my and my hubby's 12th wedding anniversary. I should probably pick a more romantic selection... something with a history for us.... which would make sense, but this choice is just right for a different reason... I just discovered it today... so I am making it a historic and monumentous selection because I had never heard it before today, our anniversary.... and it really is amazing and beautiful...

The idea behind this song is about love. A great love. To me it describes a relationship between a parent or mentor and a child... Obviously baseball being a big part of the story as well. (Which is cool because, of all sports, baseball is likely Glenn's favorite sport so there is a little more of a connection... :P)

But the story talks about how none of these experiences or victories would mean anything if you did not have that special someone to celebrate them with... that is how I feel about my Glenn.

All of the cool things I have experience are so much better because I am able to share them with him. It is like I have not fully enjoyed anything until I have shared it with him... Guess that is why we are so great together...

I love you sweetie... Happy anniversary.....

(Check out this YouTube video to hear this song. The video visuals have nothing to do with the song really. but provides a nice way for you to experience the track should you so desire to.) :D

Here are the lyrics as well.... they are so good...

What kind of day is the best kind of day?
Makes up for all of the rest of the days.
The park, the backyard, I don't care where we play.
As long as I'm with you.

Know I'll miss you deep inside.
I wish that we could go outside, to have a catch or two.

What kind of place is this strange scary place?
And who put these tears and this dirt on my face?
No matter the score or the count at the plate. I'll still be swinging for you.

'Cuz I need you in my life.
Wish that we could go outside.
Just to have a catch or two, me and you.

(doo, oh, hey love, doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo ooh)

What kind of love is the best kind of love?
The love above all the rest of the loves.
Take the ball, the hat, my bat and the glove.
It's a whole lot of nothing without you.

And I'll be waiting here outside.
Spring or Fall, rain or shine.
To have a catch or two.

'Cuz your kind of love is the best kind of love.
The best that love could ever do.

DAY 328
Arlo Guthrie – "Alice’s Restaurant Massacre”
From "Alice's Restaurant"

My brother reminded me of this song and I am totally taking from his song choice today and picking "Alice's Restaurant Massacre" today. It really is fitting for Thanksgiving....

Day 327 - The Guess Who - No Time

DAY 327
The Guess Who – "No Time”
From "American Woman"

This song popped in my head as Glenn and I were driving to the store to buy our cats some more food as they were out and doing their best to let us know they were severely concerned about their bodies shrinking. Goodness knows our 20 pound cat could not make it a day without his kitty chow. *LOL* fat and happy, except when the food is low... :P

So "No Time" is just a song I enjoy. I really liked the lyrics in my early teen years... It was the first song I remember really analyzing the lyrical content.

Check out this live performance on this YouTube clip.

The Lyrics:

(No time left for you) On my way to better things
(No time left for you) I found myself some wings
(No time left for you) Distant roads are callin' me
(No time left for you) Da-un-da-un-da-un-da-un-da

No time for a summer friend
No time for the love you send
Seasons change and so did I
You need not wonder why
You need not wonder why
There's no time left for you
No time left for you

(No time left for you) On my way to better things
(No time left for you) I found myself some wings
(No time left for you) Distant roads are callin' me
(No time left for you) Day-un-day-un-day-un-day-un-day

No time for a gentle rain
No time for my watch and chain
No time for revolving doors
No time for the killin' floor
No time for the killin' floor
There's no time left for you
No time left for you

No time for a summer friend
No time for the love you send
Seasons change and so did I
You need not wonder why
You need not wonder why
There's no time left for you
No time left for you

No time, no time, no time, no time
No time, no time, no time, no time
I got, got, got, got no time
I got, got, got, got no time
I got, got, got, got no time
No-no-no, no-no-no, no time
No-no-no, no-no-no, no time
I got, got, got, got no time
No-no-no, no-no-no, no-no-no,

Day 326 - David Perlick Molinari - Insolence and Dinner Plates

DAY 326
David Perlick Molinari – "Insolence and Dinner Plates”

Glenn introduced me to this song after he discovered it on www.somesongs.com quite some time ago. It is one of those songs that hit both he and I just right.

We both just adore this song. The arrangement is unique and is cradled in a perfectly imperfect mix. I love the vocal arrangement especially. It is very passionate. The lyrical content hooked us too when we sat down and really listened. We tend to enjoy analyzing lyrics to try and figure out where the artist was coming from. We devised that this song could have been written about a family at the dinner table. Turns out our analysis was accurate according to David Perlick Molinari's brother, Robert. Quite cool really.

This song is worth a couple hundred or more listens. It is awesome on the ears. :)Click here to hear the song. :)

Don't ask me why but this song just crept up on me and got stuck in my brain... :P This song could be considered yacht rock really.... (It was released on Kenny Nolan's self titled album in 1977.)

Day 324 - The Kooks - Jackie Big Tits

DAY 324
The Kooks – "Jackie Big Tits”
From "Inside In/Inside out"

So I have missed a couple days due to an essential Rob Zombie concert adventure on Tuesday and an absolutely necessary tattoo session yesterday. But I am back on the job here on my top 10,000 so here we go... :)

So, this song really just popped in my head... and seriously, we all know that eventually I will have picked every song from this album and then I will be able to stop hammering The Kooks on to my top 10,000 list... until they release their next album! Hahaha....

I guess my interpretation of this song is that it is somewhat of a description of a relationship between a man and a somewhat boisterous feminist type female... sounds weird, but the lyrics are great.

I recommend listening to the studio version, (as well as this awesome LIVE version,) and reading the lyrics and see what you get from it... :) It is worth a listen and a read... and a thought... :)

I'd like to say, that I was on your mind
So I phone you at ten past three, in the afternoon
It's evening for you, and another bare hotel room
So hard to believe, that you're dreaming of me too
But it's true

You only go around, round, round
You only go around, round, round
You only go around, round, round
You only go around, round, round

And Amsterdam, I never knew you so well
The stadium rings with laughter, at every turn
At flying piano's of all things, to set your scene
I'm such a nice man to you, but so obscene
And it's true girl

You only go around, round, round
You only go around, round, round
You only go around, round, round
You only go around, round, round

Jackie big tits, is hiding in the corner
Respect is the word she shouts, as I implore her
Speaks her mind not me, cause I was only speaking freely
Interupt me once more, I'll take you to the cleaners

You can't push me around, round, round
You can't push me around, round, round
You only go around, round, round
You only go around, round, round

Jackie big tits

Day 323 - Antje Duvekot - Pearls

DAY 323
Antje Duvekot – "Pearls”
From "Big Dream Boulevard"

Antje Duvekot is such an amazing song writer. Her voice is unique and so pleasant. This song "Pearls" is touching and human. We have all been there at some point in our lives.

This piece of the song is the hook for me:

"Oh, but when you gonna come for me, Lord?
When you gonna come for me?
Cause I've been expecting you forever
Waiting here for you
Will you send a little grace?
It's the least that you could do
It's the least that you could do

I hooked up a hick down in the church
I took a walk down Big Dream Boulevard
With all the sand that gets into this world
We should all be motherfucking pearls"

Even with the profanity it is the best lyric for that portion of the song... and it is sung so softly the intent is understood... Check out this short interview/performance of Antje performing this song live. (The profane line was changed for this live performance, but we all know how the censorship thing goes... goodness knows none of us can handle a piece of art the way the artist intended it to come across in order to preserve the innocence of society... ggggrrrrrr...) ;)

Day 322 - Babes In Toyland - Bruise Violet

DAY 322
Babes In Toyland – "Bruise Violet”
From "Fontanelle"

I just love the brutality of the delivery from Babes In Toyland. Parts of this song just rip it up and other parts are soft and almost creepy in the sweetness of the delivery. I remember seeing them open up for White Zombie and they just tore it up. This town did not receive them very respectfully but they pressed on and played an awesome show. I think that has a lot to do with why I respect them so much...

Day 321 - Hole - Celebrity Skin

DAY 321
Hole – "Celebrity Skin”
From "Celebrity Skin"

Glenn and I were out and about earlier this afternoon and visited a local comic book shop that also sells used CD's. Our buddy told us they were clearing out all the CD's and they had some good stuff for real cheap. $3 per CD!

So we picked up this CD as one of the 6 we purchased. I really loved this newer sound for Hole. I was familiar with much of their older material previous to "Celebrity Skin" being released and I thought it was a nice change for their music.

The guitar riff that kicks this track off is just awesome. There is no easing into the rock... it just bursts out right away and grabs your attention.

The video is actually pretty interesting as well. Courtney Love looks healthy in it.

Day 320 - Jewel - Down So Long

DAY 320
Jewel – "Down So Long”
From "Spirit"

This song feels right to me today. It has this nice bluesy vibe that really tickles me feet. I start swaying and grooving when the track kicks in right at the 0:35 mark of the song.

No matter what people may think of Jewel, I think it is undisputed that she is a very talented lyricist. I really enjoy her writing style. It makes me think and that is rare. Hahaha... I just re-read that statement and it made me chuckle... not that THINKING is rare for me... I MEANT to that modern forms of art that actually make you think are rare... just to clarify... :P

I enjoy art in general, but especially when it is not obvious and I have to consider it and try to get to know it... if that makes sense.... Ok, I am just weird...

I really like the video too. Jewel is very beautiful in this particular video. :)

Day 319 - Donald Fagen - Snowbound

DAY 319
Donald Fagen – "Snowbound”
From "Kamakiriad"

This is a sexy little mellow track. I just love the smoothness of this track...

The video totally does not fit the song... It was very unexpected to me. I sorta thought I would see a mellow kinda jam video... you know, musician types hanging around playing music... yeeeeah, not so much... it is a hip little space age nerdy kinda deal... still cool, just very unexpected... puts me in mind of Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer." The video, not the song... :)

Day 318 - Nirvana - Hairspray Queen

DAY 318
Nirvana – "Hairspray Queen”
From "Incesticide"

First of all I adore the bass line in this song. It is simple but kicks ass! And I have always had this weird fondness for the screeching Cobain vocals on this track.

It has a nice punkish vibe. I remember that I loved listening to this song when I was really pissed off when I was a teenager... and it made me feel all bad ass at those high volumes back in the day... *LOL* (How crazy, this was released in late 1992... I was 15 when this came out.... scary... does not seem as if it was that long ago. :P)

Day 317 - Faith Hill - Breathe

DAY 317
Faith Hill – "Breathe”
From "Breathe"

Looking at my list here I was surprised that Faith Hill had not appeared yet. She is probably one of my top 10 favorite country artists of all time in truth. I admire her for more reasons than just her musical talent. She just seems like a genuine and nice person. A good wife and mother, down to Earth.... you don't get that sense about a lot of celebrities these days.

This song has such a nice mellow vibe and then bursts into a passionate display of romance and sexuality. Like I say all the time on this list, it is a track people can relate to.

Anyone who has been in a real true love situation can completely understand the intensity of the words in this song. I think that is why I connected to the lyrics so strongly.

Day 316 - Alanis Morissette -Perfect

DAY 316
Alanis Morissette – "Perfect”
From "Jagged Little Pill"

"Perfect" is one of the best songs featured on "Jagged Little Pill" in my opinion.

Obviously the lyrical content is highly relateable to most people because all of us, at one time or another, feel inadequate or like we don't measure up.

Whether it be to ourselves or to those around us. A lot of times it is a parent that you always feel like you strive to make proud, or a boss, or a friend... and we all know that feeling of trying to push yourself to try and please a certain individual and sometimes feeling like you have failed miserably.

I really enjoy the raw honest nature of this song. It is so refreshing to hear a song that you know was derived from some specific experience or feeling. Something with a REAL connection.... not just some story that sounded good for the tune. Not that there is anything wrong with that method of writing, but for me I love to feel that connection in the material. I could be wrong but I do sense that REALNESS in this song.

Day 315 - Heart - White Lightning And Wine

DAY 315
Heart – "White Lightning And Wine”
From "Dream Boat Annie"

This song has such an awesome funky beginning it almost does not hit you like a typical Heart song.

I adore the way Anne growls and wails on some of the vocals in this song.

It is just a fun and groovable 70's track.

Day 314 - Nine Days - Absolutely (Story of a Girl)

DAY 314
Nine Days – "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)”
From "The Madding Crowd"

I heard this song on my way home from a friends house and I had to pick it today. I had forgotten how much I love this song.

As I was listening to this song I thought of how I could totally hear my friend Ken singing this track. Kinda cool...

The harmonies in this song were what made me really fall in love with it. Great lyrics and super creative and just fun...
